Brewster artists JOHN HOWARD & MARTHA HOLDEN will be our featured artists July 30th-August 15th as we continue our season series “COMING OUT 2021” . We will also be displaying work by Suzanne M. Packer, Kate Nelson, Richard O. Perry, Hollis Fortune, Tom Wilson Jones, John Howard, Georgene Riedl, Alla Zbinovsky, Eveline Luppi and Sally S. Fine in the the other gallery rooms. Please join us at the opening reception for John & Martha on Friday, July 30th either at the Preview: 1 pm-4 pm,or at “Meet The Artists” with refreshments 5 pm-7 pm served outside in the garden, with social distancing inside and outside.

John Howard Artist Statement:

My work is a personal response to the natural world.  I have no formal art training but have been painting for over forty years. My works are gestural abstractions rooted in nature and are my attempt to make an equivalent to my experience of the natural world. I am interested in elemental things: trees, rocks, water, wind. I am looking for forms and rhythms that can contain my inner life. In this encounter, I seek to envision and create a new and transformed place: vital, mysterious and whole.

MARTHA HOLDEN Artist Statement:

“With each piece of work I express my observations of the natural world that I find myself attracted to.  Within every thing I believe there is a heart / a spirit relaying energy around it.  The purpose of my work is to portray the energy and the spirit.  The energy sources have been endless and it is often a surprise as to where the sources spring from and where they lead  to.”
