As we come out of our houses, we are happy to kick-off our new season sharing the joy of viewing art in-person as our artists enthusiastically come out of their studios to exhibit new work. We join with you to celebrate some of our renewed freedoms as we embrace the summer of receding Covid numbers in our area by offering convenient gallery hours and opening receptions. Every few weeks, we will be featuring two of our artists in one of our gallery rooms and displaying the work of a variety of artists in the other gallery rooms so that there will always be exciting new work for you to see whenever you stop by. We will also continue our virtual gallery so that you will be able to view the work of our talented artists online 24/7.
The work of HOLLIS FORTUNE AND TOM WILSON JONES will be our first featured artists of the season and we invite you to join us on opening day, Saturday, June 26th, either during preview hours, 1 pm-4 pm or later in the day with refreshments at our “Meet-the-Artists” reception, 5 pm-7 pm.
About HOLLIS FORTUNE:
Hollis Fortune is a contemporary, abstract artist who works in acrylic , oil and mixed media. Her artistic journey has taken her from realism to the abstraction she revels in. The freedom she experiences placing paint on canvas has resulted in a body of work which invites the viewer to share her world of movement, vibrant color and abundant joy. Her inspirations include Jeanne Bessette, Mary Moquin and Brian Rutenberg.
TOM WILSON JONES’ Artist Statement:
‘Life is ultimately ambiguous… people, things, events… are seldom as clear as first seem, and certainty and precision are fleeting – momentary abstractions. I embrace ambiguity as fundamental to my work. Detours, missteps, chance are parcel to the effort, and the ‘lost lane and unfound door’ but footprints of my journey. While I am largely an expressionist painter, some objective idea will emerge, providing a communicable anchor. However, my work concludes, and does not begin, with the idea.’
